Saint Joseph School FAQs: Frequently Asked Questions
Parents frequently have questions that may be easily
answered in the Parent Student Handbook.
Additional sources of information include your Advisor
Family or the school
office.
Below, please find some of the most commonly asked questions.
We hope that this will help!
What time does school begin? 8:15 a.m. Students may arrive between 8:00 a.m. and 8:15
a.m. Students who arrive after 8:25 a.m. are considered tardy.
What time does school end on early dismissal days?
How are parents notified? 2:45 is dismissal on a regular day. On an early dismissal
day, students may leave at 12:25 p.m. In the event of severe weather or
emergency, students may be released early at 12:25 p.m. Parents are alerted
through local news and radio stations, postings on the school web site,
Edline, and through the new mass notification system on Edline. Please
keep your emergency contact information up to date on Edline.
What is the hot lunch schedule? The hot lunch program is now available daily. Orders
may be placed through orderlunches.com
for as little as one month or up to three months in advance. Orders must
be placed no later than the last Friday before the month begins. Orderlunches.com
accepts Visa and Mastercard. There is a 7.5% point of sale fee. Snacks
are also available on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These snacks may or may not
be purchased through the on-line orderlunches.com site. Snacks are sold
on Friday mornings at the school store. Students pay cash for the items
in the school store.
What is considered an acceptable amount of time to
complete homework? Students in grades K-3 can expect approximately 30 minutes
of homework each day.
Students in grades 4-6 can expect approximately 60 minutes
of homework each day.
Students in grades 7-8 can expect approximately 90 minutes
of homework each day.
These times will vary from student to student and from
day to day, but if you have concerns please share them with your child's
teacher. Students should review basic math skills as a part of their daily
homework.
Are students required to complete written assignments
in cursive? Students in grades 4-8 are expected to complete all assignments
to be handed in to the teacher in cursive, unless the directions permit
students to complete the assignment with a word processor/computer. Math
is the exception. Students will complete math in printing, pencil, and
show all work, unless instructed to do otherwise.
I am planning a family vacation. May I receive my child's
homework in advance? Per school policy, teachers have been asked to not give
a student homework or classwork when a family is planning to be away during
regularly scheduled classes. Instead, the teacher will work with the student
to make up the missing work when he/she returns.
Are cell phones permitted in school? The use of cell phones by students during school hours
is prohibited. If a student has a cell phone is his/her posession, the
student is requested to follow the homeroom teachers rules for collecting
the cell phone, in the "off" position upon arrival to school. The cell
phone will be returned when the student is dismissed.
Students at Saint Joseph School say the Rosary together,
led by an 8th grade student during the month of May, to honor Mary.
