Welcome to the Third Grade

Monday, April 26, 2010

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It has been quite busy in the 3rd grade!  First of all, we’ve been very busy learning all of our multiplication and division facts.  Students did a wonderful job catching on to these operations in math, but it is important that they practice them in the same way they practiced addition and subtraction.  We are also doing a wonderful job finishing up the cursive alphabet.  Students should be proud of what they have learned this year.

Our play, The Hobbit, is coming along beautifully.  Many students have risen to the challenge and have already memorized their lines.  I would like to highly encourage that each student practices his/her lines at home each night until the show.  Students should feel comfortable with their parts.  A great way to do this is for parents or siblings to practice with them.  For those parents who so graciously volunteered to assist me with The Hobbit, I would like to hold another meeting next Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 6:00.  If you are unable to attend for any reason, please let me know as soon as possible.

I’d like to thank Mrs. McGeary and Mrs. Messier for all their hard work on the costumes for our show.  They have creative ideas that are turning out wonderfully!  If your child plays a dwarf, a man (including warriors), and/or a goblin a big part of their costumes have been made already.  Even though some of their costumes have been created, each child who plays one of the characters listed above must also get a dark long sleeved shirt (t-shirt materials are acceptable) and dark pants (sweat pants, tights, leggings etc.)  If you are uncertain about your child’s costume, please do not hesitate to ask.

Since this school year is coming to an end, there is much to do.  It is important that students continue to complete their homework on time.  It is also important that each child has a book to read at his/her desk, preferably a chapter book.  I am very proud of the third grade students for how much their reading skills have improved this year!  Also, the research paper has been coming along really well.  Students will not need to do any part of it at home; the expectations will be easily met in school.

We are quickly wrapping up the school year with a lot of fun ahead of us!  If there are any questions or concerns, please contact me.  I hope to see many of you on Thursday!

 God bless,
 Miss Kathi Ulatowski
