Welcome to Grade 6!

Wow! This year is flying by. Our class has had an amazing experience learning throughout the first two terms. Now that we are starting term three, we have lots more to accomplish! Both grades 5 and 6 will be starting new books to continue working on their reading comprehension skills. As we read our books together, as a class, we will work on fun projects and engaging activities.

To end term 2, grade 6 wrote poems about their experience as 6th graders. They came out so wonderful; I chose a few randomly to share. We hope you like our creative rhymes, enjoy!

St. Joseph School

I am a student at St. Joseph School.
I’m pretty lucky; it’s just so cool!
My mom is a teacher here,
And I’m in sixth grade this year.

My homeroom teacher is Miss K,
She teaches us how to read, write and pray.
Miss Hartman is the one,
Who makes socials studies, math and science fun.

There are many people in the staff,
Who loves and cares and makes us laugh.
Although I can’t name them all,
Mrs. Spencer stands very tall.

Rrrrring!!! Our school day is done,
Now, the after school program offers more fun.
There are many things the students can do:
Chess Club, Reading Club and Builder’s Club-just to name a few.

We are a Catholic family, it’s true.
We also have many students who are new.
We take the time to ease their fears,
So they will stay with us for years.

Love of God and Love of Neighbor,
Two Commandments we must favor.
St. Joseph School serves grades K-8.
I think SJS is just great!!

A Lifetime of Fun at Saint Joseph School

Roses are awesome, violets are cool,
The best part of learning is Saint Joseph School.
We laugh; we play and learn all day,
And we always remember how to obey.

The teachers are awesome,
They’ve helped us blossom.
They are what make us so very smart,
I am so happy they have such an open heart.

The building may be small,
But together it keeps us all.
In the center of Meriden is where it stands,
Where everyone comes with helping hands.

My favorite part is lunch,
Where all you hear is munch-munch.
I like the Mac n Cheese they serve,
The bowl has a nice curve.

Clubs, activities and sports,
We play our games on open courts.
Cougars that are blue and white,
Are faster than the speed of light.

Classmates know each other so well,
Anyone with eyes can tell.
Math, science, English and religion,
Catholic education was the best decision.

No Bullies, Hurt or Tears—Must be St. Joseph School

S-J-S, I just love those letters,
Everyday making everything better.
SJS is the best,
There’s absolutely no contest!

A bully-free zone,
Where you’ll feel right at home.
No one’s mean or doing wrong,
Everyone welcomes you along.

The teachers all love you,
Yes, they all do.
It’s better than grape or peach jam,
It’s a total basketball dunk, Slam!

Each student appreciated,
Deserves respect and is never berated.
This should always be expected,
No one treats you as if you would be rejected.

If ever a better school, I shall find,
It’ll be heaven at the end of mankind.
It’s pretty darn awesome,
If you’re thinking ‘bout it, you should come.

SJS is the best,
I’ll say it even while I rest.
If you don’t like it that’s just so sad,
How is SJS even near bad?

All of the poetry written by grade 6 made me extremely proud! I was so happy to see that the class seemed to have a natural skill in this area of writing. Great job, grade 6!

God Bless,
