Monument to the Marines
The United States Marines is part of the United States Armed Services.  The Marines were usually the first soldiers to fight in most of the wars that the U.S. fought.  The Marine Corps fought in the following wars: the Mexican War, the American Civil War, the Spanish-American War, and the Boxer Rebellion in China.  The Marines fought very hard in the wars in the Pacific Ocean.  The Marines also fought in the Korean War (1950-1953) and the Vietnam War (1959-1975).

The Corps of Marines was established by Congress on July 11, 1798.
