Presentation of the Monuments
June 2, 2000 was a very special day for the fifth
grade students at Saint Joseph School.
It was also a special day for some very dedicated residents
of Meriden, who were memorialized by the students. As a part of the
Local Historical Monument Project, the fifth grade students worked in groups
to identify a person, program, or group that was worthy of a monument,
but for which none presently existed. The students then designed
and built a monument to help us remember these fine people. The monuments
turned out beautifully and the presentation ceremony was perfect!
The seven monuments were dedicated on June 2, 2000.
The monuments are on display at City Hall in Meriden.
We are grateful to the recipients for joining us in this
special presentation, and particularly to Mrs. Buck, the art teacher, who
made this whole project a reality! Thank you!
The students wrote dedications from the heart in their
own words.
The dedications on the monuments read:
Father Mark Jette:
"We dedicate this monument to Father Jette for his excellence
in preaching, skiing, softball, basketball, and being there for the students
of Saint Joseph School."
Mayor Marinan:
"We dedicate this monument to Mayor Marinan. Thank
you Mayor Marinan for your service to Meriden over the years."

Mr. Jack Butler of Butler Paints:
"This monument is dedicated to Butler Paints of Meriden,
Connecticut because it has been a family owned business by the Butler family
for 124 years."
The Homeless of Meriden:
"This monument is dedicated to the Homeless people in
Meriden, Connecticut."
D.A.R.E.:
"We dedicate this monument to all of the D.A.R.E. Officers,
especially to Officers Cirillo and Graham who teach the D.A.R.E. program
to the children of Saint Joseph School in Meriden."

Officer Cirillo:
"We dedicate this monument to Officer Cirillo.
Thank you for guiding us through D.A.R.E."
Mrs. Patricia McGinley:
"Thank you Mrs. McGinley for your inspiration to do our
best!"
