The Persistence of Memory - Salvador Dalí Students in Spanish Grades 1-2 have been
learning lots of new vocabulary since they returned from Christmas Break!
They have learned about the parts of the body, clothing, and food. They
also celebrated Three Kings Day and learned about Spain and Salvador Dalí.
The students watched a slide show with pictures, paintings, drawings, and
sculptures by Dalí. The students really enjoyed the presentation!
Students in Spanish Grades 3-5 have been learning how to talk about the home, family memebers, and professions in Spanish. They are learning how to put some simple sentences together, and they are learning how to combine previously learned vocabulary with new vocabulary to make more complex sentences. The students also enjoyed learning about Three Kings Day, Spain, and Dalí. In the upcoming weeks, the students in Grades
3-5 will learn about food, the parts of the body, clothing, and Cuba.
Students in Spanish 6-8 are having a truly productive year! They are moving along nicely in their textbooks, and they are also earning fun free days along the way. The students in Grade 6 are currently working on the verb tener (to have), they are learning house and family vocabulary, and they recently enjoyed learning how to make taco seasoning and cook taco meat. The students in Grade 7 are working on -er and -ir verbs, they are learning restaurant and supermarket vocabulary, and they just enjoyed watching some of Horton Hears a Who in Spanish. The students in Grade 8 are working on the verbs ser and estar, they are learning illness and medical vocabulary, and they are just beginning to work on their game projects! Information on the projects can be found on Edline. Thank you to the students in Grades 6-8 for their contributions to the Art Show. The students had the opportunity to create their own Dalí-inspired art works, and some were chosen to be included in the Art Show. The exhibit is still available for viewing on the Third Floor. The students in Grades 6-8 will continue
to work hard in their textbooks, they will enjoy some time in the Computer
Lab, and they will learn about Cuba. I hope the students will earn more
free days, and have the opportunity to enjoy some more great cultural experiences!
The students in Grade 6 Spanish made some
beautiful ofrendas (little altars) for El Día de los Muertos.
The students in Grades 7 and 8 Spanish made some creative, and delicious, Calaveras de azúcar (sugar skulls) for El Día de los Muertos.
