Meriden Traffic Tower
Traffic Tower of Meriden, CT
During the World War II, the downtown area of Meriden was a bustling, crowded place.  The traffic was directed by a policeman.  During the 1940's, the traffic tower was electrified.  It was the first electrified control tower in the state of Connecticut.  When the power went out, the police officer that was inside the tower had to slide open a window to direct the traffic.  The traffic tower used to be located next to the train station.  Now it has been remodeled and moved to a nearby location.  It is a well known symbol of Meriden.
